Trombone

ME2 Koh re-enlisted in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA)-University of Wales.

As an experienced brass instructor and band director, he has earned numerous awards at local and international festivals, leading ensembles from Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, St. Andrew’s School and St. Patrick’s School.

His performance credits include regular appearances with Lion City Brass Band, Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, The Philharmonic Winds, The Swiss Alpine Lions and Wild Rice, alongside features on Mediacorp’s live television broadcasts with Suria and Vasantham.

Starting his trombone journey under Brando Tan, ME2 Koh pursued formal studies with Fredi Sonderegger, Shannon Pittaway and Wang Wei, while also training in conducting under Volker Hartung.

ME2 Tan re-enlisted in the SAF in 2020 with a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours), conferred by the Royal College of Music and a Master of Music from the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart in Germany.

Whilst a student, he was regularly engaged to perform with professional orchestras such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra and German philharmonic orchestras in Jena, Konstanz and Reutlingen, among others. He was also a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the 2013 Asian Youth Orchestra.

ME2 Tan was the First Prize Winner of the 2016 Singapore International Low Brass Festival Competition and has performed as a soloist with the Lion City Brass Band, the NAFA Wind Orchestra and the Stuttgarter Ärzteorchester. He can also be heard on the album, “Seicento”, by the Stuttgarter Posaunen Consort, featuring music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods played on sackbuts.

Apart from the SAF Band, ME2 Tan serves as the Adjunct Principal Study Lecturer of Bass Trombone at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and has been invited as a clinician for events such as Trombone Weekend at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and the WBAS Youth Band Festival. He is also bass trombonist of the Lion City Brass Band and a Yamaha Artist.

ME2 Tan also serves as Chamber Music Manager and Programming Specialist.
