Euphonium

ME2 Kang enlisted in the SAF in 2016. A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), ME2 Kang first began learning the euphonium at the age of nine under the guidance of Singaporean euphonium player, Ng Kok Hin, before moving on to British euphonium soloist Mark Glover from 2013 to 2016. He has also been tutored by renowned soloists such as Shoichiro Hokazono, Adam Frey and Steven Mead.

Hailed as one of the most exciting brass soloists in Singapore, ME2 Kang has performed both overseas and locally with several ensembles including the Benefiz - Musik und Kultur für andere, Singapore Sounds Orchestra, Singapore Wind Symphony, Philharmonic Winds and Philharmonic Youth Winds. In 2017, he made his debut with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, with a local premiere of Philip Wilby’s Euphonium Concerto, being the first brass soloist to be featured at the President’s Young Performer Concert.

Apart from the SAF Central Band, ME2 Kang serves as the Adjunct Principal Study Lecturer of Euphonium at NAFA and the Principal Euphonium of the Lion City Brass Band. He is also a founding member of the contemporary brass group, TEH Trio. ME2 Kang is a Besson artist and performs on the Besson Prestige BE2052 Euphonium.

ME3 Chiu enlisted in the SAF in 2004. A graduate of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), ME3 Chiu also holds an Associate Diploma in Euphonium Performance from the Trinity College of London and a Specialist Diploma in Learning & Instruction from the National Institute of Education (NIE). He studied Euphonium with Samantha Chong and Mark Glover.

During his tenure with the SAF Band, he has served as a Drum Major of the SAF Ceremonial Band (2008-2013), Recruitment 2IC (2010-2015), Wing Sergeant Major of the SAF Band Training Wing (2015-2017), and the Chief Trainer (2018-2022). Upon completion of the Joint Leadership Course and the Advanced Military Musician Course, ME3 Chiu was promoted to his current rank on 1 July 2020. ME3 Chiu currently serves as the Drum Major of the SAF Central Band.
