ME3 Lim joined the SAF Band in 1994. Throughout his tenure, ME3 Lim has served in various appointments such as Drum Major, Group Leader, Concertmaster, and Band Sergeant Major of the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band, Band Sergeant Major of the Singapore Armed Forces Ceremonial Band, Unit Safety Officer and the Logistics OIC of the Singapore Armed Forces Band.

ME3 Lim is an Associate of Trinity College London in Saxophone Performance and graduated from the Drum Major Course at the Defence Force School of Music in Melbourne, Australia. Through the SAF CLASS Award, he acquired a Specialist Diploma in Band Directing from the National Institute of Education. He was also selected for Continuing Education & Training in Conducting at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (National University of Singapore).

ME3 Lim completed the SAF Joint Leadership Course in 2013 and the Regimental Sergeant Major Course in 2021.
